  Volunteer Programs : Training/Requirements/Recognition & Awards

Training
General orientation to rules, regulations and a facility tour will be given before a volunteer begins service.  In addition, the department to which you are assigned will give any “on-the-job” training and / or special orientation information once you begin.

Volunteer Requirements
Individuals under the age of 18 must obtain prior written consent from a parent or legal guardian before they may be permitted to provide volunteer services (see separate listings for more detailed information about each program).
To ensure the safety and physical well-being of our residents, patients, staff and volunteers, the New York State Department of Health Code requires the following:

  • Physical examination and medical history
  • Tuberculosis skin test (PPD)
  • Proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
  • Annual health assessment form and annual PPD

The physical examination, PPD and MMR can be done at the same time and require only a few minutes. If you choose to have these done at one of our facilities, The McGuire Group will assume the cost.

Recognition and Awards
Awards and rewards are presented at an annual volunteer recognition event in appreciation to those who have reached service milestones. This also serves as a big ‘thank you’ to all our volunteers for the time they have given.
