Certified Nursing Assistants Sherell Horton and Kimberly Jacobs get their blood pressures checked by Erie Two BOCES students from left Akira Reid, Marla Mullen, Vivian Redfern and Tequila Nowlin

Students from Erie 2 BOCES set up an information booth recently at The McGuire Group’s Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster where they provided blood pressure readings and literature for those interested in pursuing a career in nursing.

The students are certified nursing assistants employed at Harris Hill who are pursuing their Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degrees through BOCES’ accredited training program. “Our partnership with BOCES and other schools in the area has created life-changing opportunities for employees wishing to advance in their careers,” stated Jonathan Hart, Harris Hill’s Administrator. “The success of this program reinforces The McGuire Group’s tradition of promoting staff from within and helping them reach their goals.” Stacy Bastian, Director of Nursing,  noted that, “As much as it is important for Harris Hill to be a 5 Star facility, we are equally committed to our employees who are dedicated to the excellence it takes to achieve that high level of customer service and care.”

The LPN training program is offered to individuals who have been employed with a McGuire facility for at least one year. Candidates must pass an entrance exam, complete a personal interview and demonstrate a commitment to long-term care before acceptance is granted into the program. Upon graduation, they are required to pass the board exam before receiving their license. Financial assistance may be available with additional opportunities for loan forgiveness.

Harris Hill Nursing Facility provides 24-hour skilled nursing care, subacute and outpatient rehabilitation, memory care, Journeys palliative care and respite/short-term care. It continuously receives outstanding ratings from the federal and state governments. More information can be found at or by calling 716-632-3700.
