Garden Gate is pleased to recognize Jerome and Renee as our Resident and Employee of the Month for November. Congratulations!
Resident of the Month: Jerome Hearn was born July 21, 1953 in Lineville, Alabama as the first of three children. When he was only two years old, he moved to West Palm Beach Florida where he lived with his aunt and attended kindergarten. At six years old, he moved to Buffalo to be reunited with his mother who was living on Jefferson Avenue. They then moved to Humboldt Parkway. After elementary school, he enrolled in Emerson Vocational where he studied draftsmanship and pursued his love of art and drawing.
After some traveling, he enlisted in the Navy, spending three years studying at the Navy Hospital Corp School. There he flourished as a Hospitalman and Lab Tech. The credentials he attained also allowed him to work for the Marines.
His stint in the Navy took him to Europe, the Mediterranean, South America and eventually off the coast of Vietnam. He served as part of the Limited Task Force during the Vietnam War.
Jerome spent years training aboard the U.S.S. California, a nuclear cruise ship. It was during his time on the U.S.S. California that he was injured during a drill leading to his retirement from the Navy.
Jerome has been part of our Garden Gate family for two years. He continues to follow his passion for art through painting and drawing. He is also no stranger to our weekly Bingo games.
He is quick to smile, laugh and offer encouragement to his fellow residents. His manners give away his Southern upbringing and military background. Staff and residents will agree that he is a true gentleman and to share in his company is always a pleasure.
Employee of the Month: Renee Wrazen grew up in Lancaster, NY and graduated from Lancaster High School. While in high school Renee enjoyed classes in Science and Home Economics. Her caring nature led her to the CNA program through Harkness and she obtained certification.
Aside from working as a CNA, she also worked with other members of her family at her father’s fruits and vegetables stand that was located on Broadway.
In addition to Garden Gate, she was employed by St. Elizabeth’s in Lancaster and did private home care. At one point, she cared for Senator Volker’s mother.
Renee has been part of the Garden Gate team for 32 years, caring for residents and making them smile, the latter being the aspect she loves most about her job.
Her favorite activities outside of work are spending time with her husband of 7 years, shopping and spoiling her nieces and nephews.
Thank you Renee for all the care and loyalty you offer to the residents and your coworkers.Read More
