Dorothea was born in West Seneca on September 13, 1914. She and her husband, the late Laverne Lapress, were married for more than 60 years. They resided in Buffalo off Clinton Street and also on Babcock Street. Dorothea was the administrator at the Delaware Nursing Home and Laverne was employed by Chevy. Together they had four children: Gale, Sharon, Ronnie and the late Linda.
Dorothea and Laverne were part of a group that founded the Babcock Seneca Mission. After retiring from the nursing home, Dorothea continued working with children at the Babcock Mission. She worked diligently to secure donations to purchase gifts for them during the holidays.
When asked about her secrets for a long life Dorothea responded, “hard work sure didn’t hurt.” She also said she was “grateful for her family who is always there for her.”
Dorothea has been a resident at Garden Gate Health Care Facility since November of 2015. She enjoys keeping up on the daily news, reminiscing and watching her favorite television programs.
