Garden Gate Resident Janet Austin Celebrates 101 Years

Janet Lyall Austin, a resident at The McGuire Group’s Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga, celebrated her 101 birthday at a party in her honor. Janet was born on April 28, 1920 in Niagara Falls to William and Mary Lyall. She met her husband, the late Charles Austin, at school and the couple was married on November 21, 1940. They resided in Niagara Falls for 9 years and on Grand Island for 60 years.

Janet was employed at Beir’s Department Store and Moore Business, and her husband worked at MetLife. Janet has two daughters, Irene Austin Ehde of Grand Island and Joanne Austin Salazar of Glastonbury, CT. She also has five grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one niece and one late nephew.

Janet was a member of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church on Grand Island where she was on the Alter Guild and was a Junior Deputy of Aries Triangle #131. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, embroidering and reading.
