Florence “Tina” Fritz, a resident at The McGuire Group’s Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster celebrated her 100th birthday at a party in her honor. She was born in Buffalo on February 24, 1920 to Leon and Cecilia (Sredzinska) Walczak. She met her husband, the late Leo F. Fritz, at the wedding of a mutual friend, and the two were married on September 30, 1947. They resided in Amherst.
Tina worked for a number of companies over the course of her career including Curtis Wright, Bell Aerospace and Canisius College. Leo was an Army veteran from World War II and began his career at Harrison Radiator as a millwright. He then moved to the Russell Miller Milling Plant in Buffalo and retired from there in October of 1981.
Tina has two children, Marilyn L. Murray, a retired teacher from Louisville, KY and Noreen Baty, a retired information technology project manager from Buffalo. She also has 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She has been described as a strong, independent woman who lived through the Great Depression and struggled successfully to make a better life for herself and her family. She loved to entertain, travel and bake. She was an active member of St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church in Amherst where she participated for many years in the rosary altar society. She enjoys baking and playing with her great-granddaughter Mallory. One of Tina’s fondest memories is of the surprise 25th wedding anniversary party hosted for her and Leo by their family and friends. Tina became a resident at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in 2009.
