As the director of speech-language pathology, DeFazio is responsible for writing policies and procedures required by New York State; assessing, diagnosing and treating communication and swallowing disorders; completing administrative tasks; tracking treatment progress; counseling patients and families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorders; and collaborating with physicians, socials workers, nursing staff and therapists to ensure optimal patient care.
DeFazio works on behalf of The McGuire Group’s 5 local facilities including Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg, Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga, Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster, Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda and Seneca Health Care Center in West Seneca.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders sciences from the University at Buffalo and a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Buffalo State College. She is a member of the Speech Language Hearing Association, Alzheimer’s Association, WNY Chapter and Kids Escaping Drugs. She is married to Jose Perez, MD and has a daughter Brittney DeFazio.
