A favorite pastime for the residents at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster is listening to music, especially when it’s played by children. Recently, several volunteers from the community spent their time performing a number of songs on the violin, cello and piano. In addition to this wonderful music, residents also benefit from daily sessions performed by the facility’s Music Therapist Renee Rogers, MM, LCAT, MT-BC. Music is proven to be very beneficial in this setting by helping improve the residents’ mood and reducing the symptoms of dementia such as restlessness and anxiety.
The facility is always looking for volunteers who are willing to play an instrument or sing for the residents. Those interested can call Renee Rogers at 632-3700.
