Clarence resident Karin Johnson, a volunteer at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster and a retired school teacher, has been working with the residents to channel their creativity and write collaborative poems. The poetry club meets once a month and includes reading, writing and listening to poems. The group focuses on the work of a particular poet to gain inspiration and then write a poem of their own.
The poetry club held a writers celebration that included sharing their poems with fellow residents, family and staff. The group has written 8 poems in the anthology, “Seeing Through Wonder.” The group continues to meet monthly and plans to add poems to the anthology.
Harris Hill Nursing Facility provides 24-hour skilled nursing care, subacute and outpatient rehabilitation, Journeys palliative care, memory care and respite/short-term care. The facility continuously receives outstanding ratings from the federal government and finished in the first quintile in NY State’s quality benchmarking pool for 5 out of 5 years.
